There were 29% more homes on the market this December versus December 2021 as reported by the Des Moines Area Association of Realtors. 2747 homes versus 1947 in 2021. But we did have a 7% decrease of homes on the market month over month.
Home sales dropped in December by 3% compared to November. But we were down 33% from December 2021. 906 homes sold in December 2022 while 1361 homes sold in December 2021.
The December 2022 median sale price of $250,000 was very steady when compared to December 2021 median sales price of $252,000. Days on market increased month over month from 33 days to 50 days.
2022 Year End Review:
2022 was a crazy year for real estate in the Des Moines metro area. The first half of the year, homes were receiving multiple offers and selling in a day or two. June was the height of our market with only 22 days on market, median sale price of $283,500 and number of sold homes at 1682 and 2364 homes on the market. Since June the median sales price and sold homes have decreased and the days on market and homes on market have increased.
